  1. Welcome to Panasonic Odyssey!

  3. Here are a few technical notes that will help
  4. PC users get the most from this CD-ROM.
  5.  
  6. Connecting to the Internet through the CD-ROM

  9. The Odyssey CD-ROM frequently links to the Internet using your Netscape
  10. Navigator, Microsoft Internet Explorer, or the America Online Internet
  11. Explorer, depending on what Internet Service Provider or Online Service you
  12. may use.
  13.  
  14. While the Odyssey program is running, Launch your Internet
  15. Service Provider and log in.  Then minimize it by clicking the minus button
  16. on the top right corner, or use the ALT/TAB keys to switch back to the
  17. Odyssey program.  You can then click on embedded links in the CD-ROM to
  18. link to destination websites, the Odysseymall store pages, and other
  19. exciting content.

  21. If you do not have Internet access, we invite you to install the EarthLink
  22. Network software included. 
  23.  
  24. If you get an error message, or a web page or dialogue box displays with a
  25. message like "Failed to Connect" or "Couldn't Find" a certain web address,
  26. close the web browser, but keep the Odyssey Application running.  Go to
  27. your start menu, launch your Internet Service Provider or AOL application,
  28. and sign on.  Then try the Odyssey link again from within the Odyssey
  29. application.

  32. IF YOU DO NOT CURRENTLY HAVE AN INTERNET SERVICE PROVIDER

  34. Panasonic and Odyssey have provided a copy of the Earthlink Network if you
  35. don't currently have an Internet Service Provider.  To install Earthlink,
  36. launch the Odyssey CD from your start menu (Go Start, then Programs, then
  37. Odyssey, then select Panasonic Odyssey Disc.)  From the main menu, select
  38. Software, then Earthlink.  The software will prompt you through the
  39. installation process.

  42. INSTALLING THE ODYSSEY CD-ROM FOR THE FIRST TIME.

  45. For assistance installing the Odyssey CD-ROM for the first time, please be
  46. sure to review the readme file located on the CD-ROM.  The file
  47. READFIRST.TXT 
  48. contains information about hardware compatibility, video drivers
  49. and more.  For more detailed information, please visit

  52. If you are launching the Odyssey CD-ROM for the first
  53. time:

  55. Read the instructions on the surface of the CD-ROM.  Follow the
  56. appropriate instructions for Windows 3.1 or Windows 95.  Please note that
  57. the Odyssey CD-ROM does not run on Macintosh computers at this time.

  60. SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS FOR THE ODYSSEY CD-ROM

  63. Under Windows 95 or 98, the Odyssey CD-ROM requires a minimum 486-33 PC
  64. with 16 megabytes of RAM, VGA color at640x480 with minimum 256 colors or
  65. better, a sound card, an 8x CD-ROM, a 9600 baud modem or better, an
  66. Internet Service Provider, and Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator
  67. 3.0 or later.

  69. Under Windows 3.1: the Odyssey CD-ROM requires a minimum 486-33 with 8
  70. megabytes of RAM,VGA color at 640x480 with minimum 256 colors, a sound
  71. card, an 8x CD-ROM drive or greater, a 9600 baud modem or better, an
  72. Internet Service Provider, and Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator
  73. 3.0 or later.

  75. OdysseyMall strongly recommends a Pentium 120 or greater with 32 meg of
  76. RAM, VGA color of 640x480 with 256 colors, a sound card, a 16x CD-ROM, and
  77. Internet Explorer 3.0 or Netscape Navigator 3.0 or later.  A Macintosh
  78. version of the Odyssey CD-ROM is not currently available.

  80. If you are running other applications, or multitasking, we recommend you
  81. shut them down.  This CD-ROM uses Quicktime video, audio, and accesses the
  82. Internet frequently. This program will run more efficiently if no other
  83. programs are running on your system.  Any additional programs that are open
  84. could adversely affect the performance of this disc.

  86. AUDIO AND VIDEO SUPPORT FOR THE ODYSSEY CD-ROM

  88. Sections of the Odyssey CD-ROM, including Destinations, Panasonic, and the
  89. Odyssey Mall include video clips and audio narration.  When the CD-ROM
  90. launches, narration begins after the initial Panasonic logo.  If the
  91. narration does not begin, or a video does not start after you select a
  92. destination on the map of North America, make sure your computer has a
  93. sound and video card, and that you have Quicktime installed. A copy of
  94. Quicktime for Windows has been included on this disc, and will install on
  95. your system during setup if you wish.
